A lot of people often ask me: “What was you favourite day, part, city, moment… during your journey to Cali?”
I am always struggling. I had so many wonderful moments, that I can’t really choose one. But I would love to share a moment that I consider one of the best. I’m talking about the hike on top of the Hollywood hills, behind the Hollywood sign. That day, me and some friends who I had met at the hostel where I was staying and working at, decided to hike, up to the top of the hills, and wait for the sunset.
I was thrilled by this new adventure but I didn’t really know what to expect from it… I only knew it was a really long walk about 2/3 hours walking uphill, and from there I could see a beautiful landscape.
We started walking… it was soooo hot that I thought I was going to melt, we were really tired but a step more meant also less time to arrive to destination. While walking, we understood that we were getting closer, since we saw the sign from a really close prospective; this is what I captured from it:
That wasn’t enough for us, we wanted to reach the highest point, so we continued walking and at a certain point, without even realizing it, we were at the top. Behind the “HOLLYWOOD” sign. We couldn’t believe it. It was just too unreal to be real. It was a view that you usually see in the movies, those types of views which make you say “it’s a photoshop” or “yeah it’s fake”…. but this time it wasn’t. We were all standing in front of such an amazing scenery.
We inevitably started taking pictures.. a friend of mine took a picture of me right behind the sign, this is it:
So pretty right? It doesn’t really capture the incredulous emotions I felt in that moment.. but it seizes the beauty I had behind myself, and it’s worth seeing.
I’ll be honest: I felt as if I was the queen of the world at that moment. I was on the other side of the world, on top of a Hollywood hill, behind one of the most famous american cultural icons. I felt special and lucky. It made me think about life… We had to walk so much, we almost wanted to give up because we couldn’t take it anymore, we were tired and hot. But we overcame our problems and arrived at the top. Life is really similar to this walk: we suffer, we are confused and want to give up on our dreams and objectives because most of the times they can be too difficult or don’t show us the results we are especting… but it’s right after this confusing and effortful moment that the developments arrive, and it feels just awesome.
Ok well, time to stow the gab….. this wasn’t even the best part! The best arrived when the sun slowly started to disappear, creating a magical effect in the sky. Orange, red, pink, purple tints enfolded the sky and the hills. I felt as if I was a Disney movie main character. These pictures I took, partially grasp what I saw:
It looks just so unreal…. as if someone coloured the sky.
I was seriously stunned by this natural beauty.
When the sun completely disappeared, we were coiled by a black sky that didn’t give us the possibility to see anything so we slowly had to go downhill. While walking we realized that we were getting closer to the city and we could admire the Los Angeles night atmosphere, which is truly uncomparable.
That day was perfect. I had an incredible time.
I learned that we should just go on adventures, just try, see, explore everything we can while we’re able to! Life has so much to give.
